This percentage calculator covers the three questions people search for most: what is X% of a number, what percentage is one number of another, and the percentage increase or decrease between two values.

Tips for better results
- Use the increase/decrease mode to compare an old value to a new value; a lower new value shows a negative percentage (a decrease).
- For a discount, compute the discount as a percent of the original price to find the savings, then subtract it from the price to get the sale price.

Value = (X ÷ 100) × Y. Use for discounts, tips, tax portions, and “what is 18% of this bill?”
X is what % of Y
Percent = (X ÷ Y) × 100. Use for scores, conversion rates, and share-of-total questions. Y cannot be zero.
Percentage change
((new − old) ÷ old) × 100. Positive means increase; negative means decrease. Rising 25% and falling 20% are not symmetric in general.
Money rounding
Keep precision until the end, then round currency to a sensible number of decimals for the context.

What is the percentage formula?
To find 'X is what percent of Y', use (X ÷ Y) × 100. To find 'X% of Y', use (X ÷ 100) × Y. For change, use ((new − old) ÷ old) × 100.
Can I calculate a discount?
